At this point in my life I thought I'd eaten the entire spectrum of pain au chocolate (chocolate croissants). Most of the time they're a fairly predictable baked good. And when I first walked into Time After Time and saw their charcoal version, I thought it would just be a bit of a gimmick. Visited when they just opened and ordered their signature 'time traveler' drink and the matcha croissant which is a charcoal croissant topped with matcha custard and matcha butter. The croissant was mostly soft with a little crisp on the outer layers; and the matcha topping was smooth and creamy, adding a pleasantly sweet and mild matcha flavour which was pretty good. The 'time traveler' drink is an iced black coffee (probably a cold brew) with vanilla cream and orange zest on top. Went to Time After Time (TAT) Café for brunch and was genuinely impressed. the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, not flashy. The matcha croissant was flaky with a rich, earthy matcha flavour, while the fig croissant was lightly sweet and perfectly balanced. The spicy prawn hot dog stood out — juicy prawns with a gentle kick of spice, something a bit different from the usual brunch options.
