Had a short stop in this very interesting cafe. Drank juice with the family and soaked up the atmosphere in bustling Alexandria. Just off the corniche. Worth a visit to soak in the vibes. The bonus is the cats who freely wander and make themselves at home with you. Fast efficient service and very helpful with tourists like ourselves. Its a lively interesting place. Loved the art-deco decor.

One of the most iconic cafes in Alexandria, Farouk cafe is part of the city’s heritage. Established in 1928, the story behind its name is one of the nicest you’ll hear. So one time when King Farouk was heading back to Ras El-Tin Palace, and among the crowds who were standing cheering and waving to their king, a blonde lady with blue eyes stood on the road in front of the king’s procession and was waving and calling for the king. Her name was MariePianotti The guards tried to stop her and get her back in line, but she snuck between them and ran to the king’s car and saluted him with respect and asked him to have a drink at her cafe, which was called Kalimera Cafe. The king agreed and went to the cafe and asked for hookah and tea, and as a sign of appreciation to the king who honored their cafe with his visit, she changed the name of the cafe to Farouk.
