While the Napoli pizza (anchovies and capers) was quite tasty by nature, the Caprese pizza was very bland. The service was very friendly and we were seated nicely.

I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant today. When I waved in a completely normal and polite manner to get the waiter’s attention for ordering, he approached me and lectured me in a serious tone, saying that this gesture is not acceptable in Germany because it supposedly resembles a historically controversial salute. I was honestly shocked — my hand gesture was absolutely innocent and common, not exaggerated or disrespectful in any way. I replied calmly, saying, “I understand, but I think maybe you’re being a little too sensitive.” The waiter then became quite personal and said

The pizza was fine and the size was pretty great, however it lacked a little bit of flavor and spices, for the price of it you can go to Dominos and eat maybe two pizzas that will be just as tasty. Nevertheless it was a great place to have lunch right in the middle of the beautiful city center. The atmosphere is warm and cozy.

I went there almost 20 years ago, while backpacking. It was the best pizza I had ever to this day. I don’t remember how I ordered or what, but took out in a box and eaten it alone on the bench in front of Schiller’s House. One of the most distinct fond memories that I’m keeping from from the trip. I’m not sure if I will ever have a chance to visit Weimar, but if I do, I will definitely go there.
