On a trip through Europe, there are these rare occasions when you come across a ‘bistro’ which doesn’t only claim the title but also fully takes on the total responsibilities & codes associated to it. We had a lovely experience at Bar Simon. The snails / gros gris come from a snail farm in Holland, the texture was incredible and the beurre d’escargot was just perfect, we ordered artichaut vinaigrette, steamed and the vinaigrette was infused in it, good idea! Simone, our ‘serveuse’ spoke perfect French and was hyper-welcoming + explained everything, extremely nice! We loved her. The atmosphere

Food was very good. Portions were quite generous. We had oysters, savoury canelle, shaved rib eye, and a carrot tart that were all phenomenal. Escargots were salt-less - my only complaint.

A wonderful little menu with some very creative dishes, some more tasty than others, but all were beautifully presented. The "canneles" (tiny cakes with "foie gras" sauce and an anchovy on top ...!) were one of the most surprisingly delicious bites we'd ever had - and that's coming from someone who has travelled around Spain a lot and tried many creative pinchos and tapas. The "vol au vent" with two tiny slices of asparagus on top was a bit disappointing and pricy for what it was. On the whole, however, it's a great place to have a drink and share some special bites. The service was perfect.
