I cannot recommend avoiding this place enough if you are planning to eat. It’s a real shame because, as a drinking pub, the location is truly wonderful. However, the wildly inconsistent kitchen and the staff's complete lack of care make eating here a risk not worth taking. I have given The Hope two chances for food, and both were a massive letdown. The first time, we booked for a Sunday roast at 3 PM only to be told that the entire roast menu was sold out—an unacceptable failure in planning and service for a booked table. Joanna and Amanda were amazing and running the floor like queens on New Year’s Day. Mids running everywhere was very hectic but they smashed it. Smile on faces despite being stressed, food came out great time even for a table of 7. Miso chicken skewers & burger were stars of show. Only comment for improvement is pork cheeks could do with a bit more flavour! Thanks again all Women rule the world

Our hiking group of 8 people stopped for lunch at The Hope at the end of a Capital Ring walk. We were not disappointed. First of all we had orders taken at our table rather than having to go up to the bar. The staff were courteous and attentive to our needs. The food was great and they had a good selection of drinks including Doom Bar and Mad Goose on tap. It was a Monday afternoon and the pub was quiet, but the service was above what we expected and have experienced in other walks we have taken recently. Lovely pub lunch at The Hope! The food was great and the service even better — Amanda looked after us brilliantly. She was so friendly and went out of her way to accommodate us with two baby prams, which isn’t always easy. Really appreciated the warm welcome. Will definitely be back!
