Was very busy when we arrived as a walk in, but congenial host went to the trouble of checking all the corners to find us a nice table. Good choice on the menu, and what we picked came out quickly, hot and was very tasty. Not expensive and good atmosphere. Everything is new after recent refurbishment so toilets lovely, clean and sparkly!

Lovely ‘proper’ pub, very clean with a great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food is really nice. The only downside for us (and why I only gave 4⭐️) is that we had booked a table and looked at the huge menu online, only to find there was a very limited menu when we arrived, and wasn’t made aware of it beforehand 😟. It was supposed to be my special birthday meal and felt a bit disappointed. But other than that I would still recommend The Southdowns. It is a great pub!

Southdowns was very busy such that we had to wait maybe 5 or 6 mins before someone appeared at the restaurant check-in desk. Our table was made ready with a spray and wipe. Unfortunately, the menus don't get the same treatment as they were pretty sticky. With drinks and food ordered, we tried to have a chat however this was difficult due to the loud shouts and screams from the next table. (Some prosecco influence, I think.) Good that people are enjoying themselves! The food arrived in good time. Both the chicken and mushroom pie base and the apple pie base seemed undercooked otherwise the food

Had a family gathering of 15 at the Southdowns and the service was brilliant. We all sat together on one long table, which was great for keeping everyone included in the conversations. All 15 dinner's arrived nice and hot and within minutes of each other which was most unexpected. How the staff managed that I don't know. Everyone wants to return again as the menu choices were great.
