First time trying Sri Lankan food here, and I went with my friend who is from the country itself. We ordered Reshmi Soup, Palak Paneer for me, and Chicken & Lamb Biryani for my friend. The soup was fantastic — rich and full of lovely tamarind flavour. The Palak Paneer was good, though it had a slightly sweet taste, which felt a little different to what I’m used to. The only downside was the cold drink we ordered: it had no fizz and tasted just like sugary water. Overall, though, it was a nice experience — I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Banana Leaf in Ilford is a fantastic restaurant located right on the main road, making it easy to find and very convenient. The place is visually beautiful, well-designed, and extremely clean, creating a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant is well known for its signature shovel food. We especially loved the seafood selection more than the meat. The rice served with the shovel platter was very flavourful and perfectly cooked. The fish fry was outstanding — incredibly soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The large shovel platter is generous enough for four adults and costs £75. It includes one large fish fry, four omelettes, crabs, prawns, squid, chicken, and lamb. Highly recommending their non veg thali and Lamprais. You dont get Lamprais all the time as it takes time but we were lucky for our order. The flavors are all packed together in the steamed bunch. Everything was well cooked.
