The pub was converted from a shop in the early 1980s and was originally known as Welch’s Ale House. It was bought by Kieran and Margaret Madden in 1996, who then ran the pub for 22 years. The current owners have retained the name. The local newspaper The Archer was founded at the pub in 1993. This is a bright and airy, one-bar pub that has a traditional feel.
