The customer service was genuinely good, and the food was delightful. Being asked to pay before being seated felt slightly awkward. We were seated next to the door on a cold February day, so we could feel the chilly breeze throughout the meal. The atmosphere was decent, with plenty of people around — including the ever-present tech nomads at work, fuelled by their cups of black gold.

New Cross does not deserve this gem! In my time living there, I frequented Wakey Wakey most days of the week. Their food and coffee is my favorite in London (specifically the berry compote French toast), but the atmosphere and kindness of the staff is the true distinguishing factor. Play some board games while you’re at it! You can’t go wrong ordering, or getting to know the lovely people who run the cafe. ❤️
