I brought home a big haul of conchas and other types of sweet bread but they were all a bit stale. I know conchas, and these were not it. Not sure if they were just a bad batch but other reviews seem to agree that the quality is a bit lacking. There's also a separate restaurant on the bottom floor. Not sure if it's the same owner of the bakery though? Definitely an interesting set up. I can't quite put my finger to it but something about this place vibe was a bit off. I'm not sure if I'll be back again soon.

I've been coming to Pastigel for a couple of years now. It's nice to have a bakery right in downtown Elgin. We noticed that they opened up a Mexican/Columbian restaurant in the downstairs area, a change that I'm really happy with. The area is comfortable and has a relaxing vibe. The food is good and, like always, the staff are welcoming and pleasant. I'd love to see this little restaurant grow into something more!

I’m really disappointed with this cake. The writing on it looks like it was done by a child, which is not what I expected at all. On top of that, the customer service was very unprofessional—I tried calling multiple times throughout the day to confirm it would be ready by 3 PM, but no one answered. Then had the audacity to try to charge me extra when I got to the location. I only went through with the purchase because it was the day of my boyfriend’s birthday, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience and a waste of $50. I get better Mexican bread at my local fresh market. The Conchas were too thick and didn't taste tradicional at all. So NO I willing
