This is my honest review of Staxx Barbecue in Frankfort, Kentucky. I consider myself somewhat of a brisket connoisseur. I eat barbecue at least once a week, and nothing yet has topped B&N in Bagdad, Kentucky. I’ve been excited to try this place for a while, and today I finally made it in. Wowza was this a great discovery! We are visiting the area and wanted to check out the local BBQ. This one is fantastic! Everything we had, the meat, the beans, the fried sweet potatoes and the cornbread were delicious and the portions were generous. It was very busy so the seating area was close to full and at one point got very loud.

After reading several strong reviews, our group chose Staxx BBQ for our final meal in Kentucky on this trip. Expectations were set fairly high, especially with praise for both the BBQ and the fries. We visited Sunday at 12:00 for lunch. Unfortunately, all four of us walked away a bit disappointed. The biggest issue was temperature. The meat was not hot — it felt closer to body temperature (around 98–100°) rather than fresh off a pit or warmer. Not cold, but definitely not hot. We were visiting the area and always like to try barbecue everywhere we go. The first place we tried was closed, so we drove an extra ten miles to this place. It was probably some of the most tasteless, dried out, smoked meats I have ever had. The turkey was pulled into shreds, not slices. Turkey is a low moisture meat to begin with. Just minutes in a pulled state dries it out. Why? The brisket barely had a smoke ring, fell apart (no pull), and zero seasoning. The macaroni and cheese was flavorless and dry.
