Stopped in for a quick dinner before a concert while staying at the Kimpton. Service was good, no complaints at all about our waitress. (possibly Daria?). The fries were really good and honestly reminded me of McDonald’s fries as a kid. The burger was solid, and while my husband wasn’t fully sold on the jalapeño jam, he ordered it on the side and agreed it complimented the burger well. My biggest disappointment was the “Gnocchi not Gnocchi” dish. I’m a huge gnocchi fan, so this was an easy choice—but it definitely wasn’t gnocchi. It wasn’t solid and had more of a shell-like texture, which missed the mark for me. We also had the carrot cake, which to me was too sweet, and the cake-to-icing ratio felt off. Drinks were good. Overall, I just wish I liked the food more, as the service was solid, but it’s not somewhere I’m rushing back to.

Went here for lunch after a half conference event at the National Constitution Center (it's just a few blocks away). It was lunch time, but we were able to be seated as soon as we walked in. Staff were all so friendly and attentive, smiling and checking in throughout our meal to see how we ere doing. The menu was smaller than what I expected, but had some good options and I'm thinking it's scaled down since it's the lunch menu. The food itself was pretty good. I'm not a person that really likes/chooses to eat fries - I know, I know but I would choose sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, but I digress. But the fries are fried in beef tallow which really gives it such a great flavor and taste! Was really happy with the portion size of my plate - the sandwich has hefty but not too overwhelming and the side salad was the perfect size. My boss said she enjoyed her meal also. Nice spot for American fare in Old City. Would eat from here again.

Coming from NYC, I’m always a little skeptical of restaurants located right next to major tourist attractions—usually, they’re just convenient, not good - Red Owl Tavern is the exception. I knew the place was promising the second I saw the menu. We had the meatballs, the salad, and the whipped ricotta with bread—all of it was outstanding. Honestly, you could probably order anything on this menu and be happy. It’s a gem in the heart of Old City. Highly recommend!

They were easily the standout dish of the meal. The pizza was very good as well, with a well-balanced crust, fresh ingredients, and great flavor throughout. You can tell care is put into both the food and presentation. What really elevated the experience, though, was the excellent service. A Perfect On-Site Dining Spot for Wedding Weekends in Philadelphia! Red Owl Tavern is such a great complement to Hotel Monaco Philadelphia and a standout dining option in its own right.
