It was a cold Tuesday afternoon. My partner and I had class in a bit, but needed a quick caffeine pick me up. We decided to try out Kaizen & Coffee in San Mateo, and we have become regulars now. Everything here is so awesome. They are constantly adding new drinks to their menu and they have such unique inspired drinks. Though the drinks can get really expensive, they are truly handcrafted and this place is the best. My personal recommendations are the miso caramel, regular matcha, or earl grey matcha. Easily some of the best coffee you can find in the SF area. We ordered: 1) Black Sesame Latte (iced): The black sesame came out in their drink well and blended perfectly with the espresso. This was easily the best drink we had. 2) Single Origin Pour Over: The drink was made really well and clearly dialed in. It didn’t take as long as we’d expected, which was nice! I originally first came here in May 2025 when I was looking for solid coffee shops in the San Mateo area. I had gotten the PB toast along with their pour over, as well as my bro and sis-in-law. These did not disappoint at all. Speeding up to 2026 when I moved in to the area - they still were great.
