I genuinely don’t understand the hype. Maybe I just have poor person taste buds, but this was nowhere near as good as the reviews make it sound. Gjelina has been on Abbot Kinney since 2008 and it still operates with the unhurried authority of a place that knows exactly what it is. The building has no exterior signage worth mentioning, just a wood facade that you learn to recognize after a few visits or one careful Google Maps check. The food here is exceptional. We had two pizzas. The pomodora and salami are both recommended. Out of all the main courses, the scallops is one of the best. Vegetables are also very well cooked. Grilled asparagus and grilled brocolinni are seasoned with a sour taste. Black cod has a delicate taste, fresh, not very strong seasoning. I personally would prefer more flavoring but my friend liked it. Service overall is great, the staff here is very welcoming. It’s a little bit loud.
