This historic café sits on the corner of a spacious square in Altstadt. The interior beautifully preserves its old-world charm with traditional décor throughout, including a vintage newspaper rack near the entrance—a classic touch you’d expect from Austria’s old coffee house. Superb setting with its magnificent wood panelling with inlays adorns the walls and takes guests back in time, as do the marble tables, silver trays, waiters in dinner jackets and the cake ladies. We visited Café Tomaselli because of its long-standing reputation and historical significance. The atmosphere truly lives up to its name — the interior has a charming old-world feel, and it’s easy to imagine the history that has passed through this café. Sitting inside and soaking in the ambiance was definitely the highlight of the visit. That said, the coffee and desserts themselves were fairly average and didn’t stand out in terms of flavor. We ordered based on the staff’s recommendations, but none of the items left a strong impression. Overall, it felt more like a place for the experience
