R D★★★★★

La Venta del Romerete, Bilbao We had an exceptional dining experience at La Venta del Romerete in Bilbao. From the moment we arrived, Chris—the owner—made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was outstanding. We enjoyed zamburiñas, octopus, shrimp a la plancha, crab, and a delightful potato salad—each dish perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The seafood tasted fresh and authentic, reflecting the best of Basque coastal cuisine. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, they’re absolutely justified by the excellent quality, generous portions, and attentive service. This is the kind of rest

La Venta del Romerete is a great seafood restaurant if you’re in Bilbao. It offers very fresh fish and seafood, with a strong focus on quality and simple, well-executed dishes that let the ingredients speak for themselves. The menu is varied with plenty of Basque seafood specialities, and the overall experience feels authentic rather than overly tourist-driven. The service is attentive and friendly, which adds to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for fresh seafood in the city centre and a traditional Basque dining experience.

I can’t recommend this restaurant enough! The food was fresh, delicious, well-priced, and they were so accommodating and kind with our 4-year old and our limited Spanish. The bread especially is worth mentioning; it was the best we’ve had our whole trip. If you’re visiting the Guggenheim, definitely take the nice 10-minute stroll to come here.

This was my first meal in Bilbao, and I ordered the zamburiñas and shrimp — both were very fresh and delicious. I did notice that the prices seemed a bit higher compared to what other reviewers mentioned a few months ago. The staff were very polite and attentive. There was a large group of more than ten people dining that evening, so I can understand that the team was quite busy. I came with high expectations, and I can say that I was not disappointed.
