Location and atmosphere are 5*, just outside busy centre, oldest pub in the city, feels somewhere between restaurant and quiet pub. Service... Friendly and attentive itself, no issues there but: - i'd like tell the staff from the customers (and there's no need for 4tier uniforms, branded tops or aprons do just fine); - restaurant staff should not dress like hooters barmaids. 45min wait for food was also excessive (i'd blame it on freshly made pie) Menu has all usual/expected items on it but most with refreshing twist (appreciated) - could do with clear allergen marking though (need to add the

Came here for Easter lunch with my family. It was a terrific decision because the staff were attentive and friendly (even though it was busy); the food was delicious, generously portioned and arrived hot; and the historic setting was stunning with beautiful oak beams and gorgeous medieval windows. I will definitely be back for another nut roast at some point.

If you're in Canterbury scouting historical locations definitely come here to take a break with a pint and some chips. The main wooden frame of the structure is still the original from the 15th century, and many parts are even older. Sitting on top of Roman ruins. The food and bar are excellent prices too boot! They also have a gorgeous outdoor seating area.

Great pub with an amazing historic interior. We had a couple of pints and some desert. It was comfortably full with customers, the music was not too loud and it was easy to chat. The bar stuff was fabulous - very caring and polite adding another star to the fantastic atmosphere. Check out the first floor space - it is spectacular
