Lovely cafe and bakery- I really enjoyed the food, the kind service and the relaxed, beautiful atmosphere. I had the eggs benedict the first day and the porridge the second, both equally delicious and fresh. Didn’t try the pastries and cakes although the looked fantastic. A delight of a place, i’ll make sure to come back whenever I am back in Edinburgh!

Wonderful, homely cafe with delicious food- came in a couple of years ago and loved it, as I was nearby today for a conference I popped in and the very kind and accommodating staff managed to serve me the utterly delicious Turkish Eggs in the short time window I had!

Coates is a nice spot for breakfast or brunch. The atmosphere is nice and cosy. Its a great spot for catching up with friends or even studying. I recommend the spinach omelette and full english breakfast. I will definitely come back!

We spent a couple of weeks in Edinburgh, and we kept coming back to this spot, time and time again, for breakfast. It's THAT wonderful! Not only is it charming with warm, welcoming customer service, but we had some of the best food AND coffee we experienced in the entire city here! We're coming back again soon, and I SO hope they're still offering that AMAZING (& gluten-free 🙌) chickpea pancake with the seasonal veggies and salad. I think about that dish almost every day since we got back to the US. What I wouldn’t give...🥲 If you're in the area, this spot is definitely worth a stop!!
