All I can say is, thank goodness for the State Bar. Visiting the UK in 2026 for the first time in nearly a decade and I’ve been surprised how hard it now is to find real ale in a pub. State Bar is about a 20 minute walk NW from the city centre, but they have MULTIPLE cask ales! Highly recommend it if you like to drink something with a bit more bite.

Hadn't been in this bar for decades and instantly found myself back at home. Beautiful, old fashioned pub. Great range of drinks, great service and exceĺlent staff. A total pleasure. Bravo!

We had the best afternoon at The State Bar We anticipated lunch, but there has been NO FOOD served there since COVID. So don't go hungry! 😉 We met and had a fantastic conversation with 3 locals who grew up drinking beer there on a regular basis. We had a lot of laughs and really enjoyed getting to know them. Thank you!!! I wish we had taken a picture, honestly.

Such a great pub; to my mind the best in Glasgow. There's always a great, well chosen, selection of cask beers and it is uniformly well kept. Prices are great for Glasgow (£4.65 for any cask beer, no matter the abv, £5.50 when there's a keg line on, including real treats like Polly's). And the decor is fab too...proper old school Glaswegian boozer interior - dark wood, island bar. Friendly staff, reliably good beer, central location that is always easy to pop in on when you're in town for other things. I've done a lot of 'research' on Glasgow pubs - trust me, this is one not to miss.
