Lovely 'proper' pub. Went for Sunday lunch with my partner. Food was great. Everything was cooked well & tasted fresh. We will definitely be back.

recently visited the Lord Nelson Pub in Ipswich, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. The pub, located in the heart of Ipswich, has a charming and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The interior combines traditional and modern touches, with wooden beams, dim lighting, and rustic furniture that create a relaxed and welcoming vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, greeting me with a smile and ensuring I had everything I needed throughout my visit.

Very good pub about twenty minutes walk from Ipswich Railway Station and from the football ground. Five cask beers on gravity feed when I visited including a dark bitter. Lots of outdoor seating in the beer garden to the rear. The building dates from the 17th century, though the brick frontage was added in the 20th century to aid cleaning up after the many floods that affected the area. The pub was originally called Noah's Ark but the name changed in about 1800 when Admiral Nelson was appointed High Steward of Ipswich. Not too busy before the Spurs game at Portman Road.

Have enjoyed many visits to the lord Nelson and eaten there many times.however visited last Friday and ordered our usual fish chips and peas..so disappointed..battered fish was very dark and bitter tasting with inside fish dry and over cooked..can only guess that our 2 portions were double dipped?? 2 fish and chips and bottle of wine approx 65 pounds?? So disappointing unlikely we will eat there again..have to say previous visits were good..such a shame such a nice pub and atmosphere..hate giving this poor review..something wrong on this nite..so sorry..
