Paul Hampson★★★The carvery was disappointing in the choice compared to others. Lord Charles had carvery the gravy was like water with a dash of colour. The portions where a good nice. Spikey and Mrs spikey had cowboy burgers where full of flavour and wasn't dripping in fat which is always a good sign. The bacon and burgers where spot on.. I had steak and ale pie with chips and peas good sized portions again. All the food was hot well presented and staff where very welcoming and helpful.
lovebirds plus3★★Stopped here after a, long walk round canal. First visit. Had Carvery which was very disappointing. We ate around 2.30pm and not much left which didn't look appealing and taste said it all too! Most of it was, like warm/cold and a very Cold Yorkshire pudding! What little beef I had was the only edible item. Turkey piece was crusty end and I couldn't even cut it! Toilets clean. Non carvery food took a while to arrive but freshly cooked so expected which my son enjoyed, he gave a rating of 7/10. Don't think I will be going back.
JA ST★★★★I stayed in the hotel as I planned to neck 8 pints by design. The hotel is basic but clean and the staff are really professional and helpful. It's a decent enough place if you don't mind crossing a few busy roads to get to the shops. By shops I mean fast food and supermarkets. The town center is a little far away, but there is a very pleasant canal walk/run/jog directly outside (the lock is a canal lock and it's pretty much connected to the pub/hotel).
Trevor Ampleford★★★Nice place, lovely location, nice big beer garden... Bar looked fine and the food looked nice... The chap running the desk was incredibly helpful, especially spotting my card wallet on the bar and bringing it to my room for me... The room was clean, plenty of room, but I thought the bed wasn't very comfortable, but that's a personal taste thing.. What did grate, and the entire reason for the 3 out of 5 score, is the £50 damage waiver. I've never heard of seen of this before, and I'll be honest, it will put me off using The LockKeeper again, which is a pity...
