I had a fantastic dinner at The Franklin Cafe last night. From the food to the atmosphere, everything made it such an enjoyable evening. We started with the mussels, which were absolutely delicious. They were fresh, plump, and was so good we couldn’t stop dipping bread into it. For mains, we had the hangar steak and salmon, and both were excellent. The hangar steak was cooked perfectly, tender and rich with great flavor, while the salmon was beautifully done, moist, and well balanced. What really made the night special was the vibe. We made a reservation and was seated right away. For brunch, I recommend sitting outside if weather allows to enjoy the nice view of the South End! It was so pretty and we enjoyed the fall vibes sitting outside. The server was very attentive and he noticed our table was wobbly and fixed it right away. Food was amazing! We got the french toast and the corned beef hash and eggs.

I love that this place is still here after all these years - I visited Boston, South End this past weekend and the restaurant scene has really dwindled. In the 2000's, it was hopping with lots of places like Franklin Cafe. I got their iconic turkey meatloaf with fig gravy (hold the mashed potatoes - subbed non-spiced green beans) and oh yeah! So so good. Our server made excellent recommendations for glasses of wine. The atmosphere was on the loud side, as most places are now.

Stop whatever you are doing and just go here. The staff and the food ...AWESOME. If we lived around here we would stop in all the time. That said the next time we are up from Connecticut, this is where we are going. It was great to walk in without a reservation and snag a seat at the bar. Great cocktails!!
