The bakery is overrated. The egg tarts are okay but not worth the wait. They have poor customer service and sell through the door. They don't even let you into the store. A lady goes to the door and asks what you want. If you don't know the names of the pastries, you're out of luck. We got the egg tarts and they were okay, nothing amazing. There's another bakery up the street that has similar ones and you don't wait 30 minutes. They also only accept cash and they don't have a sign stating that, you find out once you get to the door.... luckily we had cash. Egg tarts are $3.75.

Golden Gate Bakery ✨✨✨ Yes, the line is long and yes, it’s absolutely worth it!! We came for the famous egg tarts and even though they were almost sold out, the sweetest lady made sure everyone in line got something by selling one per person. We also tried the almond cookies and they were AMAZING ( my fav ) !! Tip: Cash only. a true SF classic. Just a heads up: the lady who works there opens the door, takes your order, and hands it to you directly. It might seem a bit abrupt at first, but that’s simply how the bakery operates and it works. She’s actually very kind :) 📸 @foodiegodmotheer

A San Francisco classic that I had for the first time, just in time for lunar new year. Undeniably the best dan tat I've had in my life. After standing in the line (or making your friend do it so you can wander around Chinatown), eat your egg tart while its still steaming hot, standing on the sidewalk. Cash only.

It's normal to automatically want to try out something, once you see that people line up outside a specific place. Same thing happened to us, with me waiting in line for 30 minutes to get the moon cakes and egg tarts. Not going to lie, the freshness of the products is out of this world, since they take your order and start baking them at that exact moment, hence the long wait. Honestly, though, I was good with trying them out once; I wouldn't wait in line for the same pastries again. They weren't bad, but they didn't make me want to go back for more. If you want to try the moon cakes, I would
