We were originally headed to a nearby Mexican chain restaurant, but as soon as we walked in, the stale smell and understaffed atmosphere reminded us why we usually skip it. So we changed plans and stopped by La Esperanza for the first time — and what a difference. Right when we walked through the door, the place smelled clean and inviting. The decor is charming, with lots of plants and thoughtful touches that give it a warm, authentic feel. The staff was genuinely kind and attentive the entire time. The food exceeded our expectations. I've been to both restaurants in South Bend and Elkhart and they’re both very good. My opinion number one in the area. We went to the one in Elkhart last nightI I had the grilled trout it was excellent. I'm normally not for fish with Mexican food, but I would definitely have this again. Every time I’ve gone to either one of these restaurants I’ve had something different each time. It is always very good fresh ingredients and good portions. My number one food is Mexican food. give them a try you won’t be disappointed.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The service is great and the food is fantastic. My go to is the ground beef chimichanga which is delicious. If you aren't big on spicy foods, you may want to avoid the salsa, because it has a subtle heat that ramps up with each chip. They do take out, and they always give you a bag of chips and a cup of salsa with your to-go order.

I’m from Florida but now live in Michigan and work in Indiana. I’ve had really good Mexican food in Florida and this absolutely is 100% equivalent to the best that I’ve had. I will find any excuse to pick up supplies in this area so I can grab lunch! Awesome job!! I didn’t have time to take pictures because after I had the tamale everything else was devoured. Maybe next time.
