Casual Habana has two locations, and I’ve been going to the original Hackensack spot for over a decade. I’ve also dined at the larger New Milford location, and both have been consistently excellent. They’re a textbook example of Cuban cuisine—savory, well-balanced, with some modern touches. Everything from appetizers to main dishes is always well-executed and beautifully presented. I’ve always come to this restaurant because the food is delicious and, in my opinion, it’s the best Cuban spot in the area. However, today I was very disappointed. Whenever my partner and I dine here, we usually sit at a four-person table because we’re more comfortable with the extra space, especially considering the amount of food we order. What I don’t understand is why we were denied that option today. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet the hostess told us we couldn’t sit at a four-person table because there were only two of us. UPDATE June 24, 2025: Came back and had the coconut crusted mahi mahi which was fantastic. Juan was our server this time and he was very attentive. We also tried the manchego and spinach empanadas as an appetizer and they were great. Saturday in early June 2025 Great place for a good dinner, great drinks, and great service for reasonable prices. The staff here as well as the manager is extremely rude. I waited 40 minutes for cold empanadas and the croquetas were moldy and nasty. I could not eat this. I requested a refund and they refused immediately. I would never eat here again, Do not recommend this place.
