Cox Cafe harkens back to an era before there were chain restaurants littering the landscape. Walking in, you feel like you have been transported back in time to a place where everyone knew each other, and you knew that you were going to be welcomed. I stopped in for breakfast while working and called ahead to ask about the ham options. I specifically asked whether they had thick-cut ham steaks, which are a common breakfast item. After arriving, I overheard the same staff member who had taken my phone call, took my order, and accepted my payment laughing and joking with a customer about my request for a thick slice of ham. This made the experience extremely awkward and embarrassing. We decided to order the ham anyway. it's a "hot bar" that you are rushed through to pick a meat and sides. The cornbread?? Was a watered down ho cake that was thin enough to crack a tooth with no flavor. The fried chicken was blond with zero salt. The Macaroni and cheese?? was unflavored. The Mashed Potatoes was from a box with extra water. I did this so you wouldn't have to. Hard Pass.
