What a fun time! There was a 17 member jazz orchestra that wowed us! The lead saxophonist was phenomenal with tone, timing, range, etc. There were only about 35 people there, and there should have been 100! The bartender knew his stuff. No food, but you can bring some in.

Cafe Coda is THE place in Madison to hear live jazz. Check the calendar - there's not music every single night, but when there's not music there's dance classes, jam sessions, and poetry open mics. Saturday mornings have free music classes for kids who might not have other opportunities to play instruments. While jazz is Coda's primary focus, there's also some Reggae, Latin, and DJ sets. If you're a jazz musician, become a regular here. Show up to jams. Build community. The owner of this place has lots of connections in the music scene and gets great acts.

Excellent Jazz music that was free early on a Friday night. Bar was decent but understaffed with one bartender for all the patrons. Waiting for a drink could take a bit.
