Half way from Chapel Hill to Asheville, we were happy to find this great diner for lunch! A MN visitor for the first time to NC, shrimp & grits were a hit (though a bit cheesy, she'd ask for less next time). My veggie omelette with side of cheese grits & giant warm biscuit was delicious! Very friendly service, spacious & clean.. love to return again!

Bring back Fresh Chef!!! The food quality has gone completely downhill since the switch to Funkheizer’s Diner. Nothing tastes “fresh” any longer. We used to eat at Fresh Chef pretty frequently. We’ve now been to Funkheizer’s twice and will not be back. Picture of my Shrimp and Grease… I mean Grits from the last visit. 😒

Great first time here! I was greeted quickly and given my preferred seating. I let the ladies know I had never been here before and they immediately told me I get a free appetizer or dessert which is awesome! I got the duo dip, delicious and filling (I basically ate it as my meal) and then I ordered the shrimp scampi pasta which comes with garlic butter bread that just melts in your mouth. The pasta was delicious and so were the shrimp but I was so full from the chips that I needed a box right away! They took great care of me and I could tell the food was made fresh and done well!!

I will just say - if you haven't been here yet, you need to go. We were hopeful that the food would meet the expectations implied by "fresh" and "chef" but we were blown away by the flavors and presentation. We both had chicken picatta with angel hair and peach cobbler for dessert. The chicken was succulent and richly flavorful, and the pasta was perfectly tender. The lemon caper sauce was delightfully tangy, although I wanted a little more because there was so much pasta! We were pretty full already. But when our server asked about dessert and mentioned fresh peach cobbler, we both nodded. Th
