Made reservations before visiting Leipzig as we heard it was an amazing experience. It did not disappoint. Extensive menu and wine list. Interior and ambiance made it an experience. The legend of Faust also can be seen depicted in murals on each wall. There’s a small “museum” of old menus located in the hallway to the bathrooms which also warrants a visit!

The restaurant tucked away in the basement of a mall, looks amazing and feels that there’s a lot of history. It was a busy Friday evening, service was prompt and wait staff was friendly. We had the starter beef tartar - taste nothing special even though it was mentioned that it came from an old recipe. For the main we had the wild boar that came with the sides of cabbage and potato dumpling. The wild boar was tender, cooked so well and came with a sauce with some Mushroom. The cabbage seems to be coated with cardamom (strange) and the potato dumpling was quite good.

Auerbach‘s Keller was made famous by Goethe’s great work Faust, and this historic restaurant offers a menu of traditional Saxon dishes in an atmospheric cellar setting. To start, Kalte Köstlichkeiten were a selection of housemade cold appetizers: smoked duck, pork, jellied beef, Wurstsalat (sausage salad), Leberwurst, boiled egg, hot smoked salmon, cured salmon, and three different soft cheeses, along with a side of bread and crispy potato pancakes (similar to hashbrowns). This was definitely my favorite dish thanks to the huge variety of flavors, textures, meats, and preparation methods. Sin

A visit to Auerbachs Keller is less about just dining and more about stepping into a living piece of history. This legendary basement restaurant, dating back centuries and famously visited by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, carries the spirit of Faust throughout its interiors. You genuinely feel like you’re sitting where literary history was once written — and in a city like Leipzig, it has become almost a rite of passage. The atmosphere is undeniably unique. Walking down into the cellar, opening those heavy rustic doors, and entering a space filled with old-world charm creates a strong first imp
