Tried Niko Japanese recently and unfortunately it was just… net niet. We ordered a whole range of starters to get a good feel for the menu, but most dishes landed somewhere between okay and underwhelming. The biggest issue was the frying. Almost all of the fried dishes tasted more “generic deep fryer” than proper Japanese-style light, super-hot frying — more KFC than Kyoto. The fried octopus especially tasted like it wasn’t very fresh and also wasn’t fried at the right temperature or with proper tempura batter. Even the edamame somehow arrived overcooked and unsalted, which feels hard to pull

Truly delicious authentic Japanese foods. Every dish and sauce is made with great care. We shared the starters, then enjoyed a variety of taste by sharing rice balls. The salmon and chicken teriyaki were especially amazing. We’ll definitely come back!

We had a lovely dinner at Niko where the staff was friendly and helpful. The edamame was of high quality, the miso aubergine was smooth and well balanced, the chicken karaage was juicy and tasty, the beef tataki was perfectly cooked and tender and the seared char siu fell apart on touching it (the smoked egg is out of this world too). Basically, everything here was top notch and we also had the great company of the restaurant cat, which used my jacket to peacefully fall asleep on =3 <3. Thanks for everything and we will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! PS. Great music choice, so

Had an amazing dinner at Niko. The assorted sashimi was incredibly fresh and delicious, but the real standout was the Hotate Meunière: hands down the best scallops I’ve ever had. They were unbelievably soft, buttery, and perfectly seasoned, melting in your mouth with every bite. The service was also attentive, warm, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to.
