What an absolute treat we had staying at the Royal hotel at the end of February. The staff were all fantastic. Really wanted to look after us and make our stay a memorable one. We had a lovely dinner the first night it had a really lovely bistro feel, great food and wine. The breakfast was absolutely 10 out of 10. Eggs Royale the best yet. The whole place was so clean and it really looked like the staff and management really cared. Location in North Devon was perfect for exploring. Lovely hotel. The breakfast is AMAZING. Try the full English and get the scrambled egg with it, It's delicious! The sausage and bacon was really delicious too!! The rooms are a decent size, modern and the bed was comfy! You have to leave the shower running for 5 to 10 minutes before it gets hot. The building itself is just... *Chefs Kiss* The history! Arrived around 7pm the car park is across the street from the hotel. Went into the hotel to check in and recieved a warm welcome. Asked if there was availablilty in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and they kindly arranged this for me. Went up to the room to put my bags in before heading down to dinner I ordered the Caesar salad, the chicken was excellent, it's a simply dish but can be hit or miss the croutons were light and seasoned well. Sunday carvery First impressions were good, very polite staff & a nice building, parking was difficult though, their small car park was full & we had to park illegally up by the doctors (ok on a Sunday fortunately). Carvery veg was OK, but the meat (beef & pork) was terrible - bland, tough & un-appetising. I left the meat & mentioned it to the staff who said they would tell the kitchen. We waited, then the bill was presented. No explanation came back or a reduction offered but a 10% service charge was slapped on the bill... for a self serve carvery?!!
