Good atmosphere in this popular spoons. I was looking forward to this as it was my last JDW in Hampshire that I needed to tick off. I also enjoyed the novelty of getting a small ferry to it from Portsmouth. I had a good ale followed by a simple beef madras and an unfiltered Stella. An enjoyable hour on my lonesome. Would return here if nearby.

Small fronted establishment that is deceptive in size as it is narrow but goes back a long way. Pub is on one floor with toilets upstairs & outside seating available front and back. Pub was quiet when we visited at 0930 on a Saturday morning with a mixed bag of customers young & old taking advantage of a cheap breakfast. Prices are typical Spoons for food & alcohol.

I've been to a lot of 'Spoons. This one seemed different... It was very busy when we arrived, but a staff member immediately cleaned a table, and explained that they had been very busy. The drinks arrived promptly, and instead of just being delivered, they were delivered with warmth and a genuine smile. We ordered food, and it was above the standard of most 'Spoons (it was hot, for a start). I wish I had taken the time to learn the staff members names that served me so that I could praise them accordingly... Every member seemed to actually be happy to be there. Looks better after the refresh. We usually have the breakfast and it always comes out in a reasonable time with friendly service. Coffee machine is bland. Glad you get refills! I would be shocked to pay for what they expect as a coffee!
