We were in Newport to watch the cycling and found this great local pub. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Nice atmosphere and very clean. Plenty of choice on the menu and great food. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely visit again.

Visited here twice in the last month and was very pleasantly surprised. I live quite local but never tried this pub but now I'm glad I did and I've definitely found a new local! All staff very friendly, beautiful pub and beer garden with a small park for the kids. Big car park and most importantly the food and drink is lovely and very reasonably priced. Will be visiting alot more from now on.

I think the pub massively suffered from having only two members of staff on a Sunday. One out front and one in the kitchen. Food wasn't slow to come out but there was big gaps between each person being given their food. The roast was one of the most bland I have had big a decent size. The chicken was very overcooked and dry in parts which was disappointing. The price point of the roast was low so this set expectations early on. It was a shame that you could only have a roast, a Sunday menu is fairly normal but the one at the Gaer is strictly roasts. It would have been good for this to have bee
