I have visited as a student the last few years but have found the quality of food has sadly declined. Despite this, the selection of unique drinks and smaller baked goods has improved. A full english breakfast portion comes with a very small sausage and a single slice of bacon. My usual avocado toast has come out oily and mushy on quite a few occasions. However, I have enjoyed coming to this location as it is always buzzing and full of people, and I understand this likely contributes to the amount of orders they are dealing with.

This was my third visit to Cafe Yolk, and I am amazed every time. The ambiance is always cozy and vibrant. It's not a huge cafe, but the vibe is great—a lovely place for meeting friends or just chilling for a relaxing morning. As vegetarians, we were happy to see many vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. We ordered the French Toast with mixed berries and vanilla yogurt, the Avocado on Sourdough, plus a Chai Latte, Cappuccino, and Flat White. I heard cafe yolk was a popular student cafe that I had to try at some point during uni and it was worth it. Although there was a line outside of the cafe, we were seated fast and had a few options on where to sit. The menu had a lot of option and the service was friendly and fast. The food was very flavourful, however, the matcha was quite bland so I would try other drinks- the mocha looked lovely and it had writing in the foam. I would definitely come here again (the herby potatoes were sooo yum!).

Everything was delicious! Queue times are a bit brutal if you’re coming during lunch time on the weekend, but other than that - I can totally see why this place is listed as one of the best restaurants in Reading.
