Expensive anniversary dinner that ended up being one of the most disappointing meals we’ve had. The bread and oil were completely forgettable. Nothing special at all. The arancini was probably the best thing we ordered, and even that lacked much flavor. My eggplant parmesan was tiny and bland. The eggplant itself was practically nonexistent — mostly cheese and what tasted like straight-from-the-jar Rao’s sauce. The veal Marsala was the biggest letdown. While visiting Alabama, we decided to come to Birmingham and check out the city. My husband found this place on a whim since it was a Wednesday night, and we decided to give it a try. We were blown away by the quality of service we received from the moment we stepped in. The host seated us right away and was very accommodating to our needs. From the moment we walked in, Bocca Ristorante felt like home. The ambiance was cozy, relaxing, and perfectly designed soft lighting, warm colors, and an inviting atmosphere that made it the perfect spot for date night or a family dinner. Carlos, the GM, was on the floor personally checking in with every guest asking how the food was and making sure everyone was happy and satisfied. Bocca has some absolutely amazing food and is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The bread service with focaccia and olive oil was a clear favorite for us, but the panzanella, chicken picatta, and shrimp scampi were all delightful. Service was decent when we visited but could have possibly been a little more attentive. The setting inside is very intimate but a little dated. The wine list was great and the sommelier was very helpful. Overall, we will definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone who loves good Italian cuisine.
