I had to try their vegan lentil soup so on my first visit, I did just that. It was delicious, full of flavor. I ordered to go and added the orange/coconut cake and a set of almond flour treats. One has walnuts, and the other has dates. It was all sooooo good! This is a small, cute place. 1 or 2 tables inside and a small table outside. You walk in surrounded by a lot of great food and dessert. The temptation. The bonus is that the chef/baker is right there. Her name is Maria and it was a pleasure to meet her.

I genuinely can’t believe this place exists. Mouth-watering, from-scratch homemade food made by a lovely Moroccan grandmother, this is kind of place the words “hidden gem” are made for. I got the lentil soup, which came with freshly-baked handmade rolls, dipping sauces, lemon wedges, and the richest olive oil I’ve ever had (imported from Morocco). If you are looking for a welcoming neighborhood spot in Astoria, I highly recommend checking out Sunshine Cafe on 21st and Ditmars Blvd. It is a wonderful local Moroccan cafe that truly has it all, serving up a fantastic variety of food options ranging from coffee and fresh pastries to full meals. The people there are incredibly nice and welcoming, and it was so nice meeting Maria, who is exceptionally kind.
