It’s my 4/5th time here already. Came here for the $2 oysters but ended up getting a $30 lunch fried squid & house drink combo as well. Oysters at The Backyard never disappoints, fresh and succulent as usually, definitely my go-to oyster place at Cairns. And to my surprise the fried squid with seaweed aioli is really nice too, the portion is extremely generous I was so full after finishing the whole bowl. Last but not least the staff are all very friendly, shout out to Vivian, she took care of every guests very well and I love her hospitality!

We originally planned to have dinner at the beef barbecue restaurant next door, but since we didn’t make a reservation and there were no available seats, we ended up at the ground-floor restaurant of the Shangri-La Hotel instead — and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise beyond expectations. The food was well-prepared, beautifully presented, and consistently good in taste. The overall quality was impressive. The environment is also wonderful — sitting there, enjoying a meal while looking out at the ocean, feels truly relaxing and happy. A special highlight is their AUD 2 oysters from 2:00

We dropped off our own catch with Chef Erik earlier on the day and he proposed different styles of making the fish for us. Pricing wise it's quite reasonable and the food quality I would say is very high. It's all fish feast and the fish are made into 3 different styles (yellow curry, chilly honey and garlic butter) and the fish go very well with white rice and seasoned veges! I’ve sat on this review for a couple of weeks now to be fair and thoughtful but unfortunately, my friend and I left this restaurant feeling quite disappointed. From the moment we sat down, the service felt rushed and overbearing. I appreciate efficiency, but we weren’t even given a moment to properly look over the menu before being asked for our order. On a brighter note, our cocktails were a delight beautifully made and a promising start to what we hoped would be a lovely evening. The food also arrived promptly, which we both appreciated.
