Azuma feels different from many Japanese restaurants in Sydney - run mostly by Japanese staff, it carries an authenticity and quiet elegance that is not at all touristy. Even the wall of fine wines adds to the understated beauty of the setting. The food was exceptional throughout. I particularly enjoyed the variety of seafood dishes, each prepared with delicacy and depth of flavour. The desserts were equally memorable - refined yet playful - and one, presented with a flickering light, delighted my niece during a family celebration. It was a thoughtful touch that made the evening feel special.

Service here was impeccable. The servers were attentive to us and they would clean the table and replace our plates for every dish we finished. Water was refilled quite frequent too. We had edamame and lotus crips to start. I found the crisps a tad too salty. We had Wagyu tataki and it cake with lotus crips too. They were just as equally salty and I had to drink a lot of water. Though Wagyu tataki was flavorsome and nicely presented, I would have liked it better had the sauce not been overly salty.
