In Bourges, at a fairly smart looking place, listed on TripAdvisor as ‘fine dining’ and called Le Bourbonnoux there was some pretty awful food which I’ll just post here for you to contemplate. It really was very unpleasant and as I hinted above is more what I have come to expect in many French towns, sadly. The bread and wine were quite decent and the style of the restaurant raised one’s expectations but the food left a lot to be desired . We were welcomed warmly, treated well throughout the meal, and the food itself was excellent. The ambience is elegant, but not at all snobbish, and the staff are professional, attentive, and kind. We treated ourselves to the €40 set menu: the duck was cooked to perfection, the foie gras was delicious, the cheese selection was overwhelming in a good way, and the locally made gin in my G&T was one of the best I've ever tasted.

For the second time in a month we landed in Bourges to visit the two main sights: the Cathedral and the "Bourbonnoux". Everything that is served here is delicious and the price/performance ratio is excellent. Very friendly staff by the way.
