We just walked in the restaurant because we were hungry. While waiting for our drinks I looked up the review and saw the ratings were not good. However we decided to stay and eat there as we were hungry. Beer was warm, my chicken schnitzel was very dry as if it was taken out of a frozen box from a super market and fried. The dish my partner (pork medallion) ordered was also disappointing. For the price we paid €26 and €28 respectively was just not worth it. Even the fries that were served, partly were cold as if they had been fried some time ago while some were freshly fried.

Cozy little café with a lovely atmosphere – perfect for a relaxed break or catching up with friends. The drinks and cakes were great, and the service was friendly. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the overall vibe makes it worth a visit. Would definitely come back!

Visiting Hamburg from Australia for 3 nights and had our first dinner at Cafe Ponton. From our experience, it is difficult to fathom its lowly 3+ star rating! The atmosphere along the water is lovely, service was very friendly and attentive, and each of our meals were generous portion sizes for the cost and delicious.
