Very disappointing experience at Starbucks ( Northfield, Birmingham) today. We visited as a family around 4pm hoping to sit down and enjoy a coffee, but the entire seating area had effectively become a student study hall. Every table was occupied by students with laptops, chargers, notebooks and group assignments, using the space exactly like a university library. The sad part is this clearly is not accidental — Starbucks has deliberately designed many of its stores with long desks, charging points and study-style seating to attract this type of use. I’ve frequented this Starbucks many times, as well as all the others in the surrounding area of Quinton/Bartley Green. Everytime I come here it’s been fine, but today I was served by a woman called Beth. I asked for a white chocolate Frappuccino, which is exactly what I say/order every single time. Usually I get asked if I want coffee in it or not. I realised after I paid that I was never asked, and as I realised I was served my Frappuccino which didn’t have coffee in it. I regularly stop here on my way to work and it’s consistently spot on. The service is consistent enough that if you go there frequently, they remember your usual order, which is a nice touch and makes it feel genuine rather than transactional. It can get extremely busy in the drive-thru if you hit it at the wrong time, but even when they’re rushed off their feet the staff stay polite and professional.
