Whilst I personally did not go to the pub, I have to write and thank the guys who looked after my 86 year old mother in law, who I had instructed to wait outside the pub while I collected the car. Unfortunately the city was gridlocked and she was left outside in the cold (with no phone or purse). I called the pub and asked if they could let her in. They not only took her in but gave her a warming cup of coffee and made sure she was comfortable until I arrived. Absolutely love this place. Fantastic atmosphere. Only thing that lets it down is the unisex toilet. I tried to go in and 3 men told me to come back later. Tried again 10 minutes later and another man just stared at me. Barmaid kindly gave me the disabled toilet key for which I was very grateful

The Doombar was great, and the atmosphere was lovely, but unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. My salad was soaked in a dressing that was far too sour, almost like drinking vinegar, and my partner’s pie was only lukewarm. I’d return for the beer, but I’d definitely eat somewhere else next time. My takeaway cheese and bacon burger was quiet good also.
