We visited Stein’s in Kingston on a Saturday for lunch as a group of four, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. The restaurant itself was very clean, with a great atmosphere and music that really added to the overall experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. They checked in on us regularly without being intrusive, which made us feel very well looked after. I've stumbled here after a very hot day on the river. I saw the tables outside alongside the river and somehow there were empty tables so I walked in. I didn't really know if I was going to enjoy German food, I was so happily surprised because everything tasted delicious and I devoured the whole plate. I ordered beef sausages with mashed potatoes and salad. The portion was quite big and very filling. I also had dessert and it was also a big portion and very good. A great slice of Bavaria right in Kingston. The alpine decor sets the mood perfectly, and while the restaurant was surprisingly quiet during our visit, the quality of the food and drink more than made up for the lack of buzz. The absolute highlight was the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle). It was divine—perfectly cooked, exactly what I’d hoped for, and a very generous portion size. I managed to finish mine, though it defeated my friend! The red cabbage was a great accompaniment, giving the whole dish an almost Christmassy feel. Lovely place on the river with really nice staff. The food was good, not great. Veal schnitzel was breaded well and cooked well but the meat was tough with lots of chewy inedible bits. White asparagus salad with salmon was nice, but the smoked salmon was tough. Beer was good. Overall it was decent but disappointing.
