A Davis Gem— I like bagels, but I’ve been pretty meh on West Coast bagels. Found myself walking around downtown Davis while Senta! was in for a dental procedure at University of California, Davis and figured—why not try this place? The bacon bagel? Sold out. (Mental note: get here earlier.) I’m usually an everything bagel guy—why not have it all, right? But down at the bottom I spotted a cheddar jalapeño bagel. Bingo. Add butter and cream cheese—that’s breakfast. Then I hear the counter call: “Iced Vietnamese coffee for…!” Wait—they’ve got Vietnamese coffee? I added it. She asked hot or ice

Solid spot. I like how it doesnt close hella early. Cheaper than a heavy sandwich but more satisfying and filling. I come back here more than the other bagle places in Davis. Friendly workers, great to pick up a sandwicj and sit in the sun.

I respect this establishment for serving generous egg portions through the avian flu crisis. I heard about it, and I experienced the tail end of it. And I prefer this place over upscale brunch restaurants. Food quality is the same if not better, but the prices are lower with generous portions. So, unless I'm feeling like fancy dining, I just come here. Of course, menu selection is limited to bagels, which is fine.
