It didn’t get more American than Evanston Chicken Shack. This has been an Evanston institution for decades, serving up relatively cheap, delicious eats. I got the half chicken dark special, and high came with two legs and two thighs, and I upgraded the side to get the biscuit and mash & gravy. The portion was pretty great for the price with big pieces of chicken and a large serving of mashed potatoes. The chicken was perfectly crispy, extremely juicy, and had just the right amount of American grease. It’s definitely worth checking out for a quick and easy bite!

Good place for southern style take out. Their fried chicken was crispy, juicy and well seasoned. Their fries however were a disappointment and felt limp. Overall, good VFM and the fried chicken hits great. The place has very limited seating and usually has a few people waiting around. So would not recommend for dine-in. But a great takeaway option especially since they operate late night when most places in Evanston are closed

When you approach the Chicken Shack, you assume that the great reviews must be mistaken. When you get inside, you're sure you are mistaken. But this is a case of "Don't judge a book by its cover". This is not a date night or family diner. You are here for the BEST Chicken EVER!!! This is the real deal, The coating is crisp and tasty. The Chicken is flavorful and MOIST! I was blown away. My wife got the chicken sandwich, my son, chicken and catfish and my daughter, tenders. All of us were supremely satisfied and cannot wait to return. BTW, the portions were ample. You want amazing fried chicken

Best as a takeout but I needed to sit to eat. The staff was awesome but the Chicken Stack combo was amazing! No wonder they're was a steady stream of folks coming through dressed in Sunday best to shorts. Definitely a neighborhood gem!!
