This is an exceptional udon place. We love to eat udon. It is one of our favourite foods. We’ve had the fortune of trying a few places in Japan with over a 4.0 on tabelog. This place compares. We were shocked to find the quality of the udon – the texture is fantastic, with a dense, chewy, tooth some feeling. The broth are also out of this world. Most westernized beef broth are quite sweet. Absolutely loved our experience at Hungry Wombat. The food genuinely tasted authentic — comforting, rich in flavour, and made with real care. Everything felt homemade in the best possible way. I honestly haven’t had Japanese curry this good anywhere else in Australia. The service was exceptional from start to finish as well. You can tell the people here truly care about both the food and the customers. A hidden gem that deserves far more attention. Will definitely be coming back.

It’s hard to find a decent Japanese these days. I’m from sydney and was in Cairns for a business trip. The Tan Tan udon was great and soup is thick and rich. Matcha icecream with the black syrup was so nice. The staff are polite and friendly.
