Tonight we really had a memorable experience at Café des Arts. It was only our second night in Belgium and wanted to try the famous mussels and fries. We went to this restaurant, but discovered that mussels were not in season and therefore not on their current menu; but the owner had a solution: he actually offered to go buy the mussels at the market and have his cook prepare them! And he did exactly that while we were enjoying their delicious goat cheese salad. Then the mussels arrived in a huge steaming pot and we had our feast. I love the place nice ambiance. My food was great, but the food of my bf was average. The food is quite good for what you pay. Nice place. When the weather is good, you can sit outside for extra nice sightseeing around the beautiful city.

Went there last Saturday evening. The food was decent enough but the manager was clearly not in a state to be running a restaurant. He was stumbling around, slurring his words when he spoke to the kitchen staff. The waiters looked absolutely miserable. You could see the tension on their faces all night. Will not be returning.

Updated Review 6 years later: Still 5 stars. Had a reservation and even though kitchen was just closed due to extraordinarycircumstances, they made magic happen and provided another great meal. Spaghetti bolognese and the cod fish sandwich with salad and great fries. All was great and we were stuffed when we left. Server was great, manager was great. 1st review: Neat restaurant across from the Opera. Food is always good, get the white asparagus when it's in season.
