I'm surprised this place has such a low rating - we really enjoyed our meal here. We popped into Bier Central on Sunday around lunchtime for a small meal before catching our train. We notified our waitress of our time crunch and were advised on dishes to avoid as they'd take too long. We heeded the advice and went for the Flemish stew with fries and the homemade cheese croquettes. Both were delivered to us hot and in good time, and we're really delicious - the best meal we had on this Belgium trip. It was our last beer before we were going to leave Mechelen and head back to London on Saturday evening (Train from Mechelen to Brussels Midi was 7:03pm and we left the cafe at 6:46pm!). We only arrived there after 6pm, I first ordered food first then beer. I would love to try as much beer as possible but running out of time. Lots of awesome Belgian beers but vegan food was poor. I LOVE Mac and cheese. And I'll try for this not to influence my review but: this wasn't it 😂 the beers were lush and the service 10/10. The non-vegan meals were enjoyed too. But the vegan Mac and cheese was overcooked penne with a bland creamy sauce. It didn't really seem cheesy at all, and there were no textures to break up the texture of mush 🙈 don't get me wrong: I ate it all (because it cost almost €20). But would definitely not get it again. At the beginning we sat a table outside and the waiters said we have to eat if we would like sit there. Okay, we ordered sandwiches and dessert with beers. Then the old blonde waitress said to sit more outside because it’s for people who EAT… then we would like to ask a drink menu but she refused to give. After a while people could sit our previous place (and around) who just ate nachos and other snacks… :D The sandwich was really delicious but the service was rude.
