Tony, the owner is very knowledgeable and can provide an excellent initiation into Japanese whisky, especially for those of us who only drink scotch single malts. A wide selection of whisky and Tony can recommend things if you tell him what scotches you like. An intimate atmosphere with great conversation. It’s a little hard to find as it is upstairs, but well worth the effort. If you like single malts and like to talk about them you need to go here. If you don’t know anything about whisky you still need to go here.

What sets this place apart is the owner and his very impressive knowledge of whiskey. You could spend a whole day in the bar and never run out of interesting topics. Regardless of whether you are relatively new to whiskey, prefer those with higher alcohol content (?!?), favour more specific flavour profiles or even a non-drinker*, Tony can curate something based on the description of what you like and palate. You can enjoy a flight or taste single bottles from over 200 Japanese whiskies hidden in the stylish and surprisingly spacious bar behind him. * For guests who do not drink, Tony has some grape juice for inclusiveness. Tony was a veritable encyclopedia for these whiskies, including their histories, tasting profiles and distillery locations (i.e. displayed on a charming printed map), including which ones to visit. My partner and I tried 13 types of Japanese whiskey in total, most of which we’d never heard of before*. We thoroughly enjoyed each one, although some more than others. Some only had a few hundred bottles so we were a little worried about the price, but it wasn’t too scary
