Wow, just wow! Okra is an outstanding French restaurant in Karachi. I had heard from colleagues that it was truly excellent food, but I was skeptical as I find that my taste is my discerning that most people I know. However, I was truly amazed by the quality of the food, the beauty of the presentation, and the overall excellent service. I was with a group of colleagues and we shared some appetizers, two were fig based and were amazing! One was a mushroom dish that almost resembled meat – excellent flavor. I had a scallop dish for my main course, which was executed perfectly. The breads are also all made in-house. Overall, a truly gourmet experience – highly recommend that you try it. Note that the venue is small, and reservations are hard to come by so I recommend planning ahead (like months) if you want a reservation.

For years, I avoided Okra, dismissing it as another overhyped spot. But curiosity got the better of me on my wedding anniversary, so I secured a lunch reservation after learning dinner was booked weeks in advance. The experience was, unfortunately, underwhelming. While Okra thrives on its exclusivity and reputation, the food does little to justify its price tag. We arrived at noon, and the staff promptly welcomed us. The hospitality, I’ll admit, was flawless—warm, attentive, and professional. However, the ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant, though cozy with a Mediterranean touch, felt oppressively cramped. It seemed as though every square inch had been maximized, evoking the claustrophobia of a Tokyo eatery. Seating, too, was uncomfortable. Within 15 minutes, my back and legs began protesting, a sentiment taller patrons would echo. The complimentary bread basket turned out to be the highlight of our meal. Fresh, aromatic, and inviting, it hinted at the culinary finesse
